Allure Sample Society August 2014 unboxing

I love getting my little subscription boxes every month and Sample Society is the first one to arrive. Sample Society is a beauty subscription box curated by Allure magazine and cost $15 plus tax (where applicable). The boxes contain 5 deluxe sample size products and are a mix of hair, skin and make up items. You also get a Allure mini mag, which describe the products in your box, and you get a $10 off $50 purchase coupon code to use on their site.
I tried very hard not to see what is in my box, besides the spoilers they have already revealed on their Facebook page, but social media made this impossible, so I already knew what I'll be getting before the box arrived.

This is how their new, revamped boxes look like. Bright red and shiny. Personally I liked their old matte black ones better, but that is just me.
Let's open the box, shall we?!

This is what this months box looks like. We got 5 products, all deluxe sample sized. They are all very nice products, don't get me wrong, but I'm missing the "Wow-factor". Nothing in there that I really had to have or I couldn't live without. I like the box, it's just not "jumping up and down amazing".

First item in the box is Oribe Surfcomber Trouseled Texture Mousse. This was their first spoiler they released. The can is 2.5 oz which is a tad more than the 2.2 oz purse size that retails for $21.50. This product alone cost more than the whole box, so this is a nice value. Unfortunately I just cut my hair short and won't be using this anytime soon. Well, I might try it anyway. It's a texturizing mousse and in the description it says "Thickens and adds piecey texture without sacrificing shine or softness". The key ingredients are starch polymer, watermelon, lycee and edelweiss-flower extracts (I know Edelweiss, is a protected plant in many countries and has been used for abdominal and respiratory diseases, so I'm not sure why it would be in a hair product, but I guess it sounds good and will have a reason), glycerin. I wish I had longer hair so I could try it.

The second item is Ciate Paint Pots nail polish in Cha Cha Cha. amd it was also one of their spoilers. Full size retails for $15 and I think these mini versions retail for $8. Pretty hefty for a little bottle like this. The color is a neon orange and it dries to a silky, non shiny finish. I have one of their matte polishes and this one is different. It spreads pretty easy and dries fast. I like it, it looks nice paired with some turquoise or over gold and it turns into a nice copper.

The next product is Jane Iredale Longest Lash Thickening and Lengthening Mascara in Black Ice. This is a sample size the full size retails for $33 (yikes). My little Allure mag says under What it is. A modest, petroleum-free mascara that contains cellulose fibers to thicken and lengthen lashes. I'm honest, I haven't opened it, so I can't show you how it looks, but the pic in the mag and the reviews on Youtube show a huge brush with lots of those little fibers clinging to the brush. Currently I have 3 mascara tubes in use, so I didn't wanted to break the seal on this one, because they will expire. I've never seen mascara in a tube, but I like this concept. The little sample size feels like it has a ton of product inside, so that's nice to see.

The next item is Kate Somerville Dilo Oil Restorative Treatment. It comes in a little glass vial, that is about twice the size of those perfume sample vials. So I think I will get a few uses out of it. The full size cost $65. I know, facial oils are all pretty pricey, but o so worth it. This one will have to wait though, because I already have so many from other boxes or to test out from companies, that this one will likely end up in my stash drawer. But it won't be forgotten. I love facial oils. Even though I have oily skin, these oils don't make my face oily, just really hydrate, moisturize and soften may face.

Last item, and the second spoiler they released, is Too Faced Melted Liquefied Long Wear Lipstick in Melted Peony. This is also a deluxe sample size, but it will last for a long time, I'm sure. Now I'm not really a lipstick kinda gal, but I had to try this one, because I just heard good things about it.
I like that it comes like lip gloss in a tube, unusual for a lipstick.

It has this little soft spongy applicator and delivers enough product when you squeeze the tube a bit. It is a beautiful, dusty rose and is nice and creamy and matte. Not glossy or sticky at all and it stays nicely on the lips.

This was the product I was mostly excited about. And I must say it is awesome. Love the color, love the consistency and love how it feels on my lips. I might use lipsticks more often again.

So you might be wondering why I'm not head over heels with this box. I don't know, I am just not wowed. I'm thinking about cancelling my subscription and try something else. I'm not sure.
Can you recommend any other boxes? What do you like? Did you love your Sample Society box this month?
I need a few more days to come to a decision and see what my other boxes contain this month. I'm just not in love with 2 of them so far. Although they are both great, but I'm looking for something new to try. Make sense?
